Welcome To

Lake Travis

A sparkling natural retreat full of lively activity.

Welcome to Lake Travis

Northwest of Austin, Texas, where the Colorado River pools into the “Crown Jewel” of the Highland Lakes, the communities of Lake Travis border along and rest around the magnificent freshwater lake known for its crystal blue waters. The lake itself covers 18,929 acres and has up to 271 miles of gorgeous shoreline.

The area comprises several regions, neighborhoods, and communities, many of which are master-planned and excel at providing a luxurious, convenient lifestyle. Lake Travis is a reservoir created in 1942 by the building of Mansfield Dam. Originally intended to simply contain floodwaters, the area quickly became a hotspot for up-and-coming neighborhoods and residential locations, making it a diverse and lively place to settle.

Including but not limited to places like Lakeway, North Central Lake Travis, Spicewood, Briarcliff, The Hills, and Steiner Ranch, the Lake Travis area is replete with incredible opportunities to enjoy the Texas Hill Country beauty with lake amenities and close proximity to Austin, which is only around 20 minutes from the lake.

In part due to its plentiful recreational options, Lake Travis is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy being active but still want the convenience of living near the city. The area is known for its fun vibe, endless excitement, and exquisite scenery. The Lake Travis Independent School District is also one of the best in the state of Texas, and consequently, this area—with its safe communities and ample to do—is a wonderful place for families to settle.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Take care of your day-to-day needs, as well as indulge in some retail therapy at Hill Country Galleria. Whether you’re finding the best produce at Whole Foods, shopping from popular brands like H&M and Loft, or enjoying some self-care spa and salon treatments at Milk + Honey or Hand and Stone, you’ll want to take at least a day to explore this popular retail location.

The dining scene in Lake Travis is just as lively as its shopping and recreation, and you’ll never run out of satisfying choices for the age-old question: “What’s for dinner tonight?” Serving up wine for every palette and budget, as well as delicious new American fare, Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen is dedicated to sourcing their ingredients locally so that their options, like the harvest bowl, taste as fresh as possible. Pouring some of the best margaritas in the area, Santa Catarina is the go-to for fresh takes on new and classic Mexican dishes. Try any one of the authentic foods, like the enchiladas cochina, and find an instant new favorite.

Another must-try, Hops, and Thyme is a one-of-a-kind eatery where you’ll get to sip some of the best local brews and try impressive dishes made for sharing from their scratch kitchen while dining inside or under the oak-shaded patio. For breathtaking lake views to pair with your fine dining, make sure to eat at Canyon Grille. Set above the yacht club, this elegant restaurant invites you to come as you are to enjoy their impressive food, which includes everything from calamari to burgers and tex-mex specials.

Things to Do

With so many resort communities and so much natural beauty to explore, it makes sense that much of the activity in Lake Travis is centered around luxury and recreation. The Oasis, which is lovingly known as “The Sunset Capital of Texas,” is far more than just a restaurant. A staple among Austin visitors, this magnificent building is the place to host parties, weddings, and events. Its multi-level outdoor seating will leave you breathless from the stunning views, and the venue often features live music and dancing.

Lake Travis itself, too, is a source of diversion and fun for everyone, and you can easily rent a boat to traverse the crystal waters and spend a day under the sun. Whether you’re having a day with the family, hosting a bachelorette party, attending a corporate event, or taking the day for yourself, the boating options at Lake Travis will ensure that you have everything you need. Up for some hiking? Visit Lakeway’s most extensive trail system set on a 20-acre tract, The Canyonlands.
